Ahead of a national tour supporting Bob Evans, WA alt-country singer-songwriter Siobhan Cotchin shares a new single ‘Highway Song’. Which with her signature raw songwriting, is about trying to drive away from your problems or move on from something or someone that has hurt you.

With a writing style that echoes the effortless musing of Lucinda Williams, ‘Highway Song’ follows on from her WAM Song Of The Year nominated single, ‘The Fair-Weather Friend Blues’, with jangly luminous melodies hovering over stories of introspective self-discovery.

"This song is very special to me." Siobhan explains, "I remember exactly how I wrote it; I was at the studio doing some pre-production and was suffering from some serious writer’s block at the time. I told Elliot (Sundown Studios) how I was feeling and we just put on some music I’d never heard, which is something that always inspires me; hearing new and exciting sounds. It wasn't until the car ride home that I was suddenly I was hit with all these words and melodies. I kept singing it the whole way home so I wouldn’t forget it and I wrote it all down as soon as I got through that front door."

Last year Siobhan became one of Australia's favourite new artists, winning over hearts with her debut single ‘Tear Myself Apart’ and trifecta of much talked about tracks ‘Do You Know What I Mean?’, ‘Just The Way It Is’ and ‘The Fair-Weather Friend Blues’.

Siobhan's previously released tracks have been played on national radio — on repeat and picked up additions from the likes of triple j, Unearthed, Double J and RTR. Her live sets picked up traction of the same speed, seeing her lap the country supporting Robert Forster (Go-Betweens), Spacey Jane, Katy Steele, Abbe May and now Bob Evans.

Siobhan’s heart-hitting songwriting earned her a nomination for WAM Song of the Year,  a spot in triple j Unearthed Top 10 best discoveries of 2020. As well as the Fairbridge & Nannup Music Festival's Emerging Artist Awards, WAM’s Best Country Act and a nomination for Best Blues / Roots Act and Most Popular New Act for 2021.
