LIVE REVIEW: AUNTY BLUE WITH MITCH FATHERS + ISOBEL CALDWELL @ CACTUS ROOM 20/04/23
The band’s transition to a new and temporary era also saw yours truly change her status from a previously uninvolved yet content gig reviewer to one with still inchoate powers, as I may have indirectly created a turn of events that led to Harry farewelling Australia in a fashion far from pure; by doing a shoey out of lead singer Kim’s Blundstone.
ALBUM LAUNCH REVIEW: THE SLINGERS WITH THE MIRRORS + THE GEORGIA KNIGHT BAND, @ THE CORNER 24/03/23
Whatever we find ourselves doing in this almost transitional state of purgatory, we are always propelled to move forward, step by step, by great love. And this is what The Slingers explore with gusto and grace on their singles from their first album, Sentimentalism.
LIVE REVIEW: VOLT JOLT + STREET SWEEPER AT THE GEM, 11/03/23
Perhaps it was the two pints sitting pretty in my stomach, or end-of-week lethargy, or the deep thoughts that often follow exposure to late afternoon Autumn sunshine, but I found myself to be a very happy Vegemite following this punchy Punk pairing at The Gem. A festival-less weekend never looked so good.
SINGLE REVIEW: RHUS QUARTET - ‘CUDMIRRAH’
I’d recommend listening to this track with headphones for the full immersive experience - and preferably whilst sprawled on a hot sandy beach, salt crystallising on your skin, the sun high and the sky deep and blue, with hopefully a beer in arm’s reach.
LIVE REVIEW: THE SLINGERS + SUN FRUITS + JUICE WEBSTER @ THE BRUNSWICK BALLROOM 15/10/22
Last Saturday night, the heavens scheduled a quick reprieve from pouring down on Melbourne and I found myself hungry, heartbroken and with $38 to my name, watching the Slingers perform at the Brunswick Ball Room. With each soaring guitar slide and lyric delivered with utmost gusto, I gently swayed and locked arms with my pal, feeling a small part of my soul heal again.
