EP REVIEW: BELLE HAVEN - TIME CHANGES NOTHING

Melbourne metalcore locals, Belle Haven, are releasing a new EP titled Time Changes Nothing. Exploring themes of mental illness, this EP is lyrically very raw and honest. Be sure to check it out when it drops on the 16th of April!

Take Your Pill is the opening track. It features a sick breakdown, heavy vocals, and a catchy guitar riff! The song is about lead vocalist, David De La Hoz’s experience undergoing electromagnetic treatment for his struggles with mental illness. Of the treatment, he says “Nothing felt better. In fact, it felt worse. I felt no joy. No excitement. No love.” These feelings he describes are perfectly encapsulated in Take Your Pill

The second track, Mistakes, begins with an awesome drum beat and soft, emotional vocals. Featuring heavy screams and sick drum fills, this song is definitely one of my favourites off of the EP!

Nobody Likes a Hospital explores David’s struggles with mental illness and his experience staying in a hospital. Similarly to Take Your Pill, the band were able to perfectly express his feelings of despair and hopelessness with the lyrics, fast drums and guitar riffs.

The next song, Hopeless. Empty. Lonely. Painful. sounds quite different from all of the other tracks. Lyrically, its still very raw and emotional. There's a beautiful section which slowly builds up the backing vocals and drums in the background. Its very melodic and the lyrics are gut-wrenching.

Stranger Memories is the concluding song of the EP. Its fast-paced, energetic and has sick breakdowns, heavy growls, double kicks and catchy lyrics!

You’ll be sorry to miss Belle Haven’s new release, its a truly special and honest body of work. Time Changes Nothing is out on the 16th of April.
