Brisbane alternative band Days Like These are releasing their new EP titled Wide Awake. A collection of genre-fusing, fast paced songs, their EP doesn’t disappoint.

The EP opens with Disassociate, a heavy fast-paced tune! The bright guitars pair perfectly with the unclean vocals and melodic harmonies creeping through in the background.

Inflection begins with a cool electronic beat before the guitars and acoustic drums jump in. I really liked the contrasts between the heavy screams and melodic singing.

The next track, Honey, stands out amongst the others. Beginning with clean vocals and a pulsing synth sound, this song perfectly shows how good Days Like These are at fusing contrasting genres together to create something unique. Stay tuned for heavy screams towards the end!

Fans should already be familiar with this next one. Gravity was the first single released off of the EP. It features guitar hooks, loud drums and a catchy chorus! I really like all of the subtle synths in the background and the electronic embellishments.

High & Glow features more electronic and trap elements, tying into the lyrical content. Of the song, lead vocalist Callen Batson states “[it] takes its theme from my past experiences and thoughts on drugs and partying,” in pursue of an escape. High & Glow is definitely one of my favourites, I loved the way they fused elements from metal and trap together.

Forget Your Face takes a more melodic form, making it the perfect closing track. The soft keys, tom fills and unclean vocals work really well together to drive the song.

Make sure you check out Wide Awake when it drops this Friday! I can’t wait to see what Days Like These do next!
