SINGLE REVIEW: JORDAN LASER - BATTLESHIP

Hi Jordan, it’s me Milli and I was just wondering where your music has been all my life?

Oh, my.

A dark, brooding and slightly sinister intro lassos us into the song and we find ourselves wandering around in what one can only assume is Laser’s psyche. An alternate universe, perhaps? Perhaps is now my new favourite word.

I’m catching some pop jazz vibes from Jordan, and it's just not a combo you really hear every day. This is the kind of track you find on those movie trailers for blockbusters that have a huge plot twist- and that's what you can expect from this song.

I feel like I'm floating away down a river of Jordan’s melodic, pitch perfect voice. She lulls you into a sort of trance, This song should be played aloud, an immersion of sound.

According to the press release, this song was recorded between her living room and a small studio above a Sydney pub, and honestly is there anything more creatively inspiring than an Australian pub?

Pursuing music from a the young age of 7, Jordan had her first EP recorded with Jim Moginie and Rob First from Midnight Oil, songs that cemented her future as an artist. After taking a short break to focus on her producing talent, she comes back out of the shadows to drop this delicious, hypnotic track into our laps.

I’m in awe of the raw talent displayed by the ethereal Jordan- and I copped a sneak peak of her music video and let me tell you, she’s really moulding our vision of her into something darker, more mature and a little bit scary- but in a good way, right?

This track features some pulsing base and delicate percussion, the focus being her incredible voice. She throws in some of her biggest influences Stevie Nicks, Massive Attack and Kate Bush to provide us with a haunting, well rounded track.

If you’re interested in film noir, please check out her incredible music video for this song- it’s just stunning.

And Jordan if you read this I think you’ve absolutely killed it with this song, and personally I’m so proud of you.
